APP Hosts Industrial Design Class from Wentworth Institute of Technology
Concord, NH — On Wednesday, November 6, 2013, Advantage Plastic Products (APP) hosted 40 students from Wentworth Institute of Technology’s Industrial Design program. In the midst of studying “Manufacturing in Design”, the students were here to gain a real world understanding of the injection molding process and to witness firsthand how products come to life. The students were split into two groups of twenty; one group spent the first half of the tour in our conference room reviewing prototyping techniques, DFM (design-for manufacturing), mold flow analysis, fundamentals of mold design and an overview of injection molding techniques including material selection, multi-cavity molds, processing, secondary operations and assembly. The 2nd group started out touring the plant and viewing the various processes that lead to an injection molded part. The two groups then switched and we closed with a question and answer period. Helping guide the students were their course instructors, Jeff Elsbecker and Ed Driscoll.
From Jeff Elsbecker:
“Many, many thanks for hosting us yesterday. Everyone there was knowledgeable, hospitable and informative. Even more than that, it was great for the students to experience the level of enthusiasm for the work that your team had. As they progress in their careers, these students will realize what a great opportunity it was”.
